Implanted Design Teams
Implanted Design Teams, particularly those featuring an element of managed service, are normally associated with companies that have made a significant tactical or strategic decision in terms of their management of engineering and design.
In such cases a design team (including, if required, a management role) operates as a seamless part of the customers organisation. Such an approach is beneficial in a number of cases, e.g. where a company faces a short-term "overload" within the engineering function, or where a business has made the strategic decision to maintain a core of engineering expertise but not add to it in the longer term, or where company has adopted an advanced "virtual" model for its business through the utilisation of specialist technical partners whilst protecting its IP (Intellectual Property) rights.
In each case, the choice of partner company is critical to the success of the programme, not least because the thinking around such an approach challenges many of the conventional ways of managing design and engineering, and because it usually brings with it a critical (although not necessarily negative) assessment of the internal functions.
As a leading edge design house, DDC have the expertise to help customers through this process and have the proven capability to deliver a managed design service, with the prerequisite level of technical expertise, support, service quality and key performance metrics.
