Workshop Technician (Trainee Draughtsman)

OVERALL JOB PURPOSE:
1. To perform the assembly of R&D electrical and mechanical testing rigs or prototypes of specific new product developments
2. To contribute towards the continuous improvement of the R&D workshop.
3. To assist in the detailing of R&D test rigs.
4. To order and chase components/assemblies for the R&D test rigs or prototypes
5. To document and file all project information when necessary.(eg Testing data-base)
6. To place orders on the R&D ordering system.
7. Communicate by drawings, written, and verbal methods.
8. Assist in test accesses (some overseas).
9. Maintain a log personal book for reference

R&D Design Engineer

OVERALL JOB PURPOSE:
1. To perform the engineering design of New Switchgear Products.
2. To optimise designs for manufacture and assembly by assisting production engineers.
3. To prepare testing schedules and attend internal or external testing.
4. To ensure all necessary design documentation has been prepared for production.
5. To assist in the design engineering aspects of the pre-production build phase of new product development.
6. To provide technical support to Current Product Department during the transition from pre-production build to volume output.
7. To work with suppliers in the design stage of the project to reduce product costs.
8. To suggest new manufacturing processes and technologies to production engineers if they are used in a particular design.

KEY RESULT AREAS:
1. Reduce product cost.
2. Reduce number of modifications to current products by sound design methodology.
3. Improve quality and repeatability of product by using sound design methodology.
4. To assist in reducing the lead time of the design aspect of new product development.
5. Produce a proven design to the Marketing specification to assist Lucy to produce the right product, at the right time , at the right cost to the production facility.

KEY SKILLS:
1. Some experience of Switchgear design is an advantage
2. Sound background in a Mechanical/Electrical engineering environment is a necessity
3. Methodical approach to problem solving
4. Capable of organising and retrieving historic engineering design data.
5. Capable of driving design ideas/concepts forward.
6. PC literate in word, Excel, Powerpoint, 2D &3D CAD (Unigraphics / Auto-Cad is an advantage)
7. Experience of working as a member of a Multi-disciplined Project team would be an advantage.
8. Team player with enthusiasm.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS
HNC / HND minimum in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
